Aloxe-Corton: a special domain
The location of the Aloxe-Corton domain is special because it is the junction of two other emblematic territories in Burgundy: The Cote de Beaune, of which the town of Aloxe-Corton is part, and the Côtes de Nuits. Aloxe-Corton vineyards extend over 120 hectares, located at around 200 and 300 meters above sea level on a silica and flint chalk: at the Montagne de Corton. It should be noticed that the domain does not only concern the municipality of Aloxe-Corton, but it extends also to the communities of Ladoix-Serrigny and Pernand-Vergelesses. Thus, its production is generous and rich in fruit. Aloxe-Corton includes 14 wines, all classified as Village or Premiers Crus. They are primarily red wines (Pinot noir), the production of white wines is rare, even exceptional. When they are produced, they are made with chardonnay.
To the eye, Aloxe-Corton wines have dark shades, compared to other appellations from Burgundy. To the nose and to the palate, one will generally feel the red fruit and mineral flavors, but also and especially a particularly marked structure. Nevertheless, even domains where the appellation reveals all of its potential (the Antonin Guyon domain for example), the price of its bottles is still accessible to everybody.
