Aloxe Corton
This AOC of the Côte de Beaune exists since 1938. Its vineyard covers an area of about 122 ha extending south of the mountain of Corton. The terroir of the appellation Aloxe Corton is characterized by reddish or calcareous soils, slightly clayey and containing flint debris at an altitude of 200 to 300 m. This terroir also has a good content of potassium and phosphoric acid. The stony and marly soils depending on the location are favorable to the production of soft, elegant and fine wines while the marly soils produce firm and complex wines. The vines are exposed due east. The climate is temperate with a continental tendency. The variety of soil types, drainage, grape variety, climate give a wide variety of wines. For example, wines from the south are more structured and solid, while wines from the north have more flexibility with fruit aromas. The vineyards of this appellation have 14 Premiers Crus, the best known of which are Les Clos des Maréchaudes, Fournières and Valozières. The illustrious Grands Crus Corton and Corton-Charlemagne, meanwhile, straddle the 3 geographical areas grouping the town: Aloxe Corton, Ladoix-Serrigny and Pernand-Vergelesses.
The best producers of the Aloxe Corton appellation
This village appellation includes red wines (about 98.5% of production) and white wines (1.5%). The reds have a fairly dark color, with shades of deep ruby, garnet or crimson depending on the climate. They have scents of red and black fruits in their youth. With age, the aromas evolve towards jasmine, candied fruits with notes of truffle, mushroom, leather, cinnamon. Red wines are powerful, robust, aromatic, refined wines with vibrant acidity. After a few years in the cellar, they become more structured with velvety tannins. These are wines of good ageing.
-Coche dury: this estate operates nearly 9 ha of vines on small plots spread over 6 municipalities in the Côte de Beaune region. He favours a policy of very low yields and meticulous vinification. Its red wines are fragrant, intense, powerful wines with a beautiful ageing capacity. They are full-bodied wines, concentrated but with a balanced acidity. The estate is known for its fine Mersault wines and its Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne, not to mention the white Burgundy. The diversity of wines in terms of aromas, consistency, complexity of flavors depend on the terroir and viticulture. Coche dury is one of the estates with an elegant expression of its terroir.
-Faiveley: this family estate of 115 ha located in the village of Saint-Geroges is one of the largest estates in Burgundy. The majority of its vineyards are located on appellations of prestigious crus such as the Côte de Beaune, the Côte des Nuits. The estate's production revolves around 54 different wines, some of which are Grands Crus (10 ha of vineyards) and Premiers Crus (25 ha). The estate's red wines are distinguished by their complexity, the firmness of their tannins and their aftertaste of earth and minerals. At the tasting, they reveal flavors of red fruits, spices, vanilla, oak with a pleasant length of coconut.
-Louis Latour: this estate was founded in 1797. Through 11 generations, the prestigious estate has been able to increase its planted vineyard area. Each year, its production revolves around 150 different wines, and 8.5 million bottles. The area of this estate extends over 48 ha including 27 ha of Grands Crus (17 Grands Crus de Corton and 10 Grands Crus Corton-Charlemagne). Its red wines are controversial. They are heated to 70°C for 3 seconds before bottling. On tasting, these wines are round, quite fruity and slightly creamy with a sophisticated and fresh palate and a beautiful acidity. Wines can have a bit of minerality and herbaceous notes. Corton-Charlemagne is a wine that is both not very expressive in aromas with strong tannins in its youth but which will develop a creamy richness and aromatic complexity after a few years of ageing. The type of wine that interests both the drinker and the amateur.
-Bonneau du Martray: the wines of this estate are served at a private birthday dinner of Queen Elizabeth II of England. This estate belongs to the American Enos Stanley Kroenke after its sale by the Bault de la Morinière, an heir to the estate. The latter has made efforts to improve the quality of the vines and winemaking. Its vineyards of 24 ha produce two Grands Crus: Corton and Corton-Charlemagne. This flagship wine boosts the estate's international reputation. The wines of this estate are of great finesse, while being powerful with exceptional aromatic qualities and velvety tannins. Intense wines that do not saturate .
-Bouchard Père et Fils: this estate was bought by the Champagne house Joseph Henriot in 1995. It is one of the oldest and largest wineries in Burgundy. The farm comprises 130 ha, divided into 74 ha of Premier Cru and 12 Grand Cru. It includes prestigious appellations such as Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Bonnes-Mares, Mersault-Perrière... Its red wines are known for their firm character, and great expression while the whites are fresh and generous on the palate.
-Ludovic Belin: this producer comes from a family of winegrowers. He created his own estate in 1997 with only a third of a hectare of maternal vineyard. With great perseverance, his estate currently extends over 6 ha in Aloxe-Corton, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses, Chorey-lès-Beaune. Its wines unfolding a fruity and floral nose have a beautiful purple color. They have a beautiful attack and tannins a little round or framed according to the vintage. div>
