Nuits-Saint-Georges


This village appellation refers to wines made in the Côte de Nuits wine region, in the east of France. It covers 41 Premiers crus. The town that gives its name to the appellation is a small lively town surrounded by the communes of Vosne-Romanée, Agencourt and Premeaux-Prissey. Terroir of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation


This French town is located in the Côte d'Or department in the region of Bourgogne. Although its vineyard area is only 310 ha, it is of significant importance because it has 41 quality Premiers Crus vineyards. Pinot noir is the main grape variety used in Nuits-Saint-Georges. It produces young red wines with beautiful aromas of red fruits with floral notes and a hint of licorice. After a few years of ageing, these wines have a muscular structure, structured with scents of undergrowth, fur or leather. The white wines, on the other hand, have a pale gold color, quite alcoholic with an expressive bouquet of white flowers, honey.
The terroir of this appellation is divided into two parts. The northern part is located up to the limit of Vosne-Romanée. The southern part partly covers Nuits-Saint-Georges and Premeaux. The soils of the northern part consist of stony alluvium in the upper slopes and silty soils in the lower parts. In the southern sector, the terroir is filled with calcareous, deep marl soils. The climate is exposed to the east or southeast.

-Prieuré Roch: Henri-Frederick Roch, a member of the family Leroy created this estate in 1988. It adopts an organic and biodynamic culture by advocating a minimum intervention. The portfolio of this 14 ha estate includes Grands Crus, highly renowned Premiers Crus and high-end village wines. Its Grands Crus of Clos-de-Vougeot and Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze can reach astronomical prices. They are breathtaking, very vibrant, energetic wines with pronounced aromas of juicy red fruits, spices, cinnamon and mineral notes. On the palate, they give a feeling of amplitude with a generous fruit, a refined and balanced finish, without heavy tannins.
-Georges Noellat: the 5.5 ha farm covers leading vineyards located in the most interesting terroirs of Vosnée-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges. It produces prestigious wines in the Premiers Crus and Grands Crus appellations. Its style of red wine is a wine with a beautiful bright color and a bouquet of a variety of fine red fruits that mingle with spices. At the tasting, the fruit is polished, delicate, precise, elegant, velvety with good energy. We offer several bottles on sale for Grands Echezeaux and Nuits-Saint-Georges of this cult domain.
-Henri Jayer: this winemaker began to produce wines in his name in the 50s. Its vineyard of 3 ha includes plots of Grands Crus, Premiers Crus and village wines. Its Grands Crus stand out for their deep red with a bouquet of aromas of chocolate, cherry, leather. They express themselves in the mouth with complex flavors of fruits, truffle, earthy notes on a long citrus finish. A must enjoy !
-Domaine Leroy : The Leroy Empire is divided between the Maison Leroy in Auxey-Duresses, the domaine d'Auvenay , and the Domaine Leroy. This 23 ha estate is surely one of the largest producers of red wines in the Burgundy region. It owns a number of plots of Grand Crus, Premier Crus and village wines. The Grand Crus of this biodynamic estate has a sensual character with aromas of red cherries, black fruits, leather and subtle minerality. White wines exude scents of exotic fruits such as grapefruit, mangoes with notes of honey and mushroom.
-Méo Camuzet: this winery also has Grand Crus and Premier Crus sites in Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosnée-Romanée. The estate extends over 14 ha of vineyards. Its Grands Crus are appreciated for their delicate concentration of aromas and the purity of the fruits.
-Perrot Minot: the origins of this winery date back to the 19th century. Its vineyard also extends over the sites of Grand Crus and Premier Crus in Chambolle-Musigny, Vosnée-Romanée, Gevrey-Chambertin... Its Grands Crus present a varied style: powerful, masculine, a little austere with an earthy minerality and a mixture of aromas of red and black fruits or a rather effervescent bouquet of scents of red fruits, orange, sage, tea. The palate often has intense or medium-bodied flavors with fine tannins and exceptional length .
-Jean Grivot: the 15 ha of this estate are planted with wines from different appellations , including a dozen Premiers Crus and 3 Grand Crus. The estate produces a range of red wines renowned for their deep, aromatic nose and round, succulent flavours buffered by the citrus-tinged acidity on the delicious finish.
-Domaine Cathiard: this family estate created in the 30s extends over 4.4 ha of vineyards spread over 11 plots including a plot of Romanée-Saint-Vivant and many farms in Vosnée-Romanée. The estate produces many vintages: Premiers crus and Grands Crus. 99% of this winemaker's production is devoted to export. This is why its wines are very popular on the market and reach high prices such as Romanée Saint Vivant 2010 on sale on this site. This wine is the purest and freshest in its range of wines. It explodes with beautiful aromas of succulent red fruits, silky tannins, complex spicy notes and fragrant flowers. His wines have an exceptional purity in their youth. They are also characterized by their balance, elegance, a harmonious and delicate structure on a long finish.
-Jacques Frédéric Mugnier: the fifth generation of the family currently manages this 14 ha estate based at Château de Chambolle-Musigny. This great name of Burgundy produces Grands Crus and Premiers Crus renowned for their wonderfully elegant nose with aromas of cedar, spices, red fruits, violets. At the tasting, the palate presents flavors of sweet strawberries, ripe with a fleshy texture.
-Domaine Confuron: this estate created in 1731 has a vast vineyard of 130 ha including 12 ha in Grand Crus and 74 ha in Premiers Crus. Its Premiers crus rouges have a wonderfully fruity character with earthy, spicy and licorice notes accompanied by generous, structured, mineral flavors and moderately dry tannins. -Liger Belair: this relatively new wine producer owns land in Vineyards of Premiers Crus and Grands Crus. It adopts the principles of biodynamics. Its red wines have aromas of smoke, meat, cherry, blackcurrant or Asian spices. On the palate, they reveal sweet berries, calcareous minerality, refined tannins and a long finish.
