Domaine Krug: A champagne of character

The Krug house is quite ancient, it has existed since 1843. More than 170 years and six generations later, this Champagne house is a model of its region today. However, it should be precise that it was an act of boldness that gave birth to Krug champagnes: it was Johann-Joseph Krug who, after leaving behind a famous champagne vineyard, wanted to apply his own vision of the world. In fact, the Krugs are among the growers producing some of the most prestigious wines in the world. For that, Krug wines count with a hundred different tastes and nearly 150 wines in reserve, some of them having more than 20 years of aging.

Spread over 250 parcels, its plantation divides in three varieties: pinot meunier, pinot noir and chardonnay. It should be noticed that the house does not only produce white wines, it produces a rosé as well (Krug Rosé, in all simplicity). The raising is done in small oak barrels and requires a perfect mastery of conservation. In the mouth, the Krug Grande Cuvée is simply incomparable. It is the 20-year-old vintage that the critics are unanimous about. There are other examples, such as the Clos du Mesnil, which is produced on 1.84 hectares and is a much younger vintage.
