At its peak, the champagne has no equivalent. It has all the qualities of a great sparkling wine freshness and vivacity brightening spirits, complex aromas and rich on the palate, balanced by fine acidity. Champagne has a monopoly of the most esteemed brands, where the others sparkling wines are judged. The AOC Champagne spreads over 150 km from north to south and 115 km from east to west. It is defined by five separate vineyards. Epernay is the center area of the three most extensive production and the most prestigious: the Montagne de Reims, the Marne Valley and Côte des Blancs. Côte de Sézanne, less known, prolongs the Côte des Blancs south, and Côte des Bar is located in the extreme south of the appellation, about 100km from Epernay. The appellation includes 17 Grands Crus and 43 Premiers Crus vineyards with a total area of 32,000 Ha.
