Aloxe Corton

This AOC of the Côte de Beaune exists since 1938. Its vineyard covers an area of about 122 ha extending south of the mountain of Corton. The terroir of the appellation Aloxe Corton is characterized by reddish or calcareous soils, slightly clayey and containing flint debris at an altitude of 200 to 300 m. This terroir also has a good content of potassium and phosphoric acid. The stony and marly soils depending on the location are favorable to the production of soft, elegant and fine wines while the marly soils produce firm and complex wines. The vines are exposed due east. The climate is temperate with a continental tendency. The variety of soil types, drainage, grape variety, climate give a wide variety of wines. For example, wines from the south are more structured and solid, while wines from the north have more flexibility with fruit aromas. The vineyards of this appellation have 14 Premiers Crus, the best known of which are Les Clos des Maréchaudes, Fournières and Valozières. The illustrious Grands Crus Corton and Corton-Charlemagne, meanwhile, straddle the 3 geographical areas grouping the town: Aloxe Corton, Ladoix-Serrigny and Pernand-Vergelesses.
